Couching Stitch

Couching stitch is such a versatile tool for embroidery!  It allows you to "draw" with materials as you can use all sorts of threads, yarns, ribbons and torn fabrics for the couched thread, while using a traditional embroidery thread, such as our Eri silk or Perle cotton threads, to do the couching. Amanda McCavour's Herbarium Collar makes use of this technique to create these delicate leaf "drawings" on a favourite garment.
